Academic Programs:

Walt Disney Elementary has been the recipient of many Indiana school improvement awards and grants. The school received state and national recognition for academic competitions including Knowledge Masters, National Social Studies Olympiad, National Geography Olympiad and National Language Arts Olympiad. 

In 2011-2012, the Walt Disney Elementary was named a reward school by the Indiana Department of Education.  This honor is given to schools showing high academic performance and growth while maintaining an accountability grade of “A.”

Walt Disney is one of Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation’s 11 elementary schools. P-H-M has consistently received an “A” rating from the Indiana Department of Education since 2011. P-H-M serves more than 11,100 students in its 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and Penn High School.  Based on Spring 2021 ILEARN results, P-H-M is in the state’s Top 6% among public school districts, Top 3% of all public school corporations passing ELA and Top 7% of all public school corporations passing Math.

LEA Annual Report Cards:

Beginning with 2017-2018 data, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires each local educational agency (LEA) that receives Title I assistance to prepare and disseminate an annual LEA report card. An LEA report card must be concise and presented in an understandable and uniform format for parents.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indiana received a waiver from calculating Federal Accountability ratings for the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, Indiana has requested a waiver for the 2020-2021 school year as well.

Honors and Achievements

Walt Disney has also earned the distinction of being among Indiana’s Top 30% of Public Elementary Schools by U.S. News & World Report (data is based on the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years). Click here to learn more.

In 2019, then 4th grade Walt Disney teacher Christine Austin was awarded P-H-M’s Elementary Teacher of the Year and named Top 30 Finalists for IDOE’s 2019 Teacher of th Year.
