Running is Elementary 2024 is in the Books!
The “Running is Elementary” program wrapped up its 2024 season with the main race at Elm Road Elementary School yesterday. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 4th and 5th grade students, both boys and girls, who competed in a 1-mile course that tested their endurance and speed.
The annual program, aimed at promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles among elementary school students, brought together participants from various schools in the area.
Parents and teachers cheered from the sidelines as students dashed toward the finish line, each striving to put forth their best effort. The event not only highlighted the physical capabilities of the students but also emphasized the importance of physical education in the school curriculum.
The “Running is Elementary” program has been a key event in the community’s calendar for the last 15 years, fostering a sense of unity and encouraging children to adopt active lifestyles. Special thanks to the P-H-M Education Foundation for making it possible!

Zoo to You Comes to Walt Disney
Third grade students met some “friends” recently courtesy of the Potawatomi Zoo!
Students did research on animals at the zoo and came up with ideas for an animal that think should come to our zoo, based on the local habitat.
Students then wrote a story / narrative from their animal’s perspective using facts they learned.
Of course the main attraction was when Zoo staff brought in several animals for the kids to see with their very own eyes. You can see them too in the photo gallery below!

Learn Like a Superhero Week!
This week we’re “Learning Like a Superhero” at Walt Disney and this morning we started with a schoolwide assembly!
Fot complete information on this week’s events, check out out latest newsletter here.
Teachers and staff wore their best Superhero costume to build excitement for the week ahead. Here is a schedule of each day:
Wednesday, December 6 is the highlight of the week with “Super Family Fun Night”, which is a family literacy night that has something for everybody. Below is information on Super Family Fun Night and you can click here for more details. We can’t wait to see you!
It’s a great week to be a Dolphin, we can’t wait for the learning and fun!
Make sure you help your student keep track of their reading and math and fill out your S-U-P-E-R Bingo cards; there’s a lot on the line–or should we say lips!
Principal Higginson has a goal of 80% of the students getting S-U-P-E-R Bingo and if they do she will kiss a calf! Yes, kiss a calf!
As you can see and hear, the students were pretty excited about this, so hopefully the kids will get their wish just in time for the holidays!
Walt Disney Rocked Our School!
Get Your Teach On is an organization that “specializes in professional development and encouragement for educators and administrators in the form of conferences, workshops and events. ”
On September 29th, Get Your Teach On sponsored “Rock Your School Day” as a way to “set the stage to engage” the students.
There were rock stars and DJ’s galore in our classrooms, hallways and pretty much everywhere else.
This was a fun way for students and staff to show their creativity and make learning fun.

Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation is nationally recognized as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” offering choir, band and orchestra at Schmucker, Discovery and Grissom Middle Schools.
Every P-H-M 5th grader who will be attending a P-H-M middle school as an incoming 6th grader in the Fall 2023 has the opportunity to join an instrumental music class, which includes either band or orchestra. “Instrument Selection Night” is when students and families get to make their choice!
In order to join 6th grade band or orchestra, students must select an instrument that they will learn throughout their time in their chosen class. Our Instrument Selection Nights are designed with the intention of helping your child make this decision.
At “Instrument Selection Night,” a music professional will be available to give students advice about which instrument may be best suited for them. They will be allowed to “try out” instruments from various instrument groups. Click here to visit the expansive website with more details on on Instrument Selection Night.
You will sign up for an appointment at one of our Instrument Selection Nights. Try to sign up at the middle school where your child will attend. If those dates do not work, you may sign up for one of the other nights. Click here to sign up.

Fifth Grade Girls Take In Notre Dame Basketball Game
Our fifth grade girl students had the chance to step foot on the University of Notre Dame this afternoon for a field trip that they will likely remember forever.
The girls got to attend a game between the #10 Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team and the Western Michigan Broncos.
It was more than just a basketball game though, before the game started our Dolphins had the opportunity to tour the Irish practice and training facility.
They were able to see the practice court, where the team watches film, and they got to see the numerous National Championship trophies up close.
Despite living this close to a major college campus, often times students don’t have an opportunity to visit. Field trips like this allow our students to dream of possibilities for their own lives.
Because Notre Dame places such a high value on education, our principal Ryan Towner even received an autographed basketball!
